Spring has Sprung Hodgepodge

I'm joining Joyce again for this weeks Hodgepodge questions.  She comes up with them, we answer them.  Can't get much easier than that!

1. They say you learn something new every day. What did you learn yesterday?
I learned that Hubby had a fun childhood. I always knew that but hearing some of the places he played as a child was fun.  Even after 45 years, I'm still leaning things about him.

2. Have you ever had a now or never moment? Elaborate.
Sometimes on Facebook I'll see an amusement park ride with the caption "Would you?"  It usually involves a whole lot  of elevation and some spinning, twirling, falling sort of contraption that you are locked into.  There is no way I'm doing that!! So that is a definite NEVER moment.  But traveling, or time spent with the grands is a NOW moment.

3.  April 25th is National Telephone Day. Do you still have a land line or have you gone mobile only? When you receive a text message do you respond immediately? Last time you turned your phone off?  In two or three sentences share with us a story/memory/incident from your childhood (or something current if that's too hard) where the telephone is featured.

We have a land line but rarely use it. Mostly we use it for the caller ID function.  If we don't know the caller, we don't answer the phone.  I'm so sick of the robo calls.  I guess the Do Not Call function that we signed up for does absolutely nothing.
I don't always respond to a text message right away, it depends on the text.  Some are about what the other person did for supper or what their dog is wearing that is cute or funny.  Those types of text can wait.  My phone goes off every night and when I'm at church.  It only rings if someone on the VIP (very important person) list calls me.  Everyone else goes to voice mail till I'm awake.
Growing up we had a "Party line" where 3 of us were on the same line and you could listen in to others if you were so inclined. If you needed the phone for an emergency you needed to first get the others off the phone and then you could call for the emergency.

4. Close call, at someone's beck and call, call the shots, call a meeting, call it quits, call in sick, call on the carpet, wake up call...which call have you 'heard' recently? Explain.
Call it quits fits me this week.  I quit trying to gain weight -yes I'm one of those who is underweight - don't hate me, it really is an issue. I quit running around trying to get so much done in one day. I quit getting the yard raked and ready for spring in one week.  I just plain quit.

5. What subject do you wish you'd paid more attention to in school?

Math.  Especially the type of math used to figure out long term finances.  Do we have enough to live on, how do we get more, how can we invest better - that sort of thing.  It would have been much easier to learn those skills then, it's harder when we get older (well for me at least)

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Spring has finally shown up in the Northeast.  I'm so happy to sit outside and watch the traffic go by with a nice cup of tea and have the sun shine on me.  The yard will still be there tomorrow to work on.

The Sun Came Out on Hodgepodge Day!

Welcome to the Hodgepodge.  Joyce creates the questions, we answer them.  Come join us for fun.

1. Three things on your spring bucket list? If you don't have an actual list that's fine, pretend you do.

My spring bucket list is : Garden,  Rake, and Visit the beach with the Hubby and the Littles (the dogs)

2. Where do you find rest? What restores your soul? When was the last time you did whatever it was you answered here?
I find rest at home. It's quiet here and it's loving here, and Hubby is here.  That gives me rest.  Home also stores my soul.  I can do my Bible reading here and reflect on all my many blessings.

3. April is National Celery Month. Who knew? Do you like celery? What's your favorite dish made with celery? On a veggie and dip platter which would you reach for first-carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumbers or cherry tomatoes?
I do like celery but mostly in soups and stews.  If it's in the veggie platter, it will not be the first thing I take, peppers will be.

4. I read here eight things to do before 8 am to make your day less hectic-Start one load of laundry, drink water, empty the dishwasher, read your Bible, know what you're having for dinner, get dressed, brain dump (two lists-one what you're thankful for and one what's weighing on your mind), and after the brain dump make your to-list for the day
My list is for the day, it's not a list to get done before 8am.  I'm retired and have all day to get it done!
My to do list for today is: 1-Get dressed, 2-read my Bible, 3-feed the Littles (dogs), 4-get Littles to doggie daycare, 5-start a load of wash, 6-take a nap, 7- Be thankful for my health, 8-make sure I am ready for another medical test on Thursday.

5. Describe the view from your window.

A picture is worth a thousands words.  I love living in the country.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Barbara Bush has left this earth and she leaves behind a story of love, caring, determination, and standing by her husband.  The news has been all good about her and her love of her husband and children.  She was looking forward to seeing her daughter who had died many years ago of cancer.  I hope she got her wish.  Rest in Peace Barbara and may peace also surround your family.

Spring Where for art thou!!!

I'm joining Joyce at From This Side of the Pond in her great Wednesday Hodgepodge.  Thank you Joyce.

1. April is National Jazz Appreciation Month. Are you a fan? If so what's a favorite you'd recommend to someone new to jazz listening?

I'm not a fan of Jazz at all.  Country and Easy Listening are my favorite genres.
2.Mandolin, ukulele, harp, accordion or banjo...which would you be most interested in learning to play? Or do you already play one of the instruments listed?

I don't play an instrument and I'm not able to read music so I am disappointed that Triangle is not on the list as that may be something I could play.

3. Do you judge a book by it's cover? Elaborate. You may answer in either/both the literal or figurative sense of the word.

Do you mean a real book then yes I judge a book by it's cover.  If you mean judging a person, then I probably dob but I don't mean too.  I look at people's hair.  After going so long without any. I look at people's hair and decide if it fits their face or if I would look good in that style.  I notice if it's clean or over sprayed, too short or too long, and so forth.

4. According to a recent study the ten most nutritious foods are-almonds, cherimoya (supposed to taste like a cross between a pineapple/banana), ocean perch, flatfish (such as flounder and halibut), chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, swiss chard, pork fat (shocking! but I don't think they mean bacon), beet greens, and red snapper. Are any of these foods a regular part of your diet? Any you've never ever tasted? Which would you be most inclined to add to your diet?

I love fish but only have it when we go out to eat. My poor Hubby is allergic to fish so I don't cook it at home.    Pork fat is an odd thing for sure!

5. Besides a major holiday what is the most recent thing you've celebrated with your people? Tell us how.

We celebrated my birthday with a great day to play (or as Hubby calles it work) in the yard, getting to eat out -twice!!, a beautiful purple card - my favorite color and lots of being made to feel special.

6.  Insert your own randomness here
.

Mother nature and I have had a talk lately.  We wake up to the  pellet stove on, and fresh snow on the deck.  It's SPRING!  or at least it is suppose to be.  So we had a talk.  I let her know that just because she overslept and didn't show up in November and most of December she could not hang on in April!  She must head out of Dodge, as it were.
Today in the mail I got this.

It's the Breck's spring/summer seeds & flowers catalog!   Guess she heard me and this is her way of apologizing.  I'll take it!
